X-5679 Phos-Pro Cleaner-Etcher Rust Stopper

COLOR(S): Transparent Green Liquid.

PRODUCT TYPE: Chromate in a Phosphoric Solution/ Metal Pre-Treatment

DESCRIPTION: Phos-Pro is a pre-treatment metal etch solution which cleans, etches and stops rust on steel surfaces. It is designed to be used as a metal pre-treatment which readily penetrates rust causing it to chemically change from iron oxide (rust) to iron phosphate (black iron), a substance which turns the metal black leaving an excellent temporary protective coating on the surface. After pretreatment of the metal with Phos-Pro, a Farwest rust-inhibitive primer must be applied prior to finishing with the topcoat. For fine metal finishing on smooth, cold-rolled steel: MIL-P-15328 Pre-treatment Wash Primer should be used as a fog coat. Farwest recommended primers are: X-1184 Zinc Chromate Red Oxide Primer, X-4576 Red Oxide Primer, X-4959 Red Lacquer-Proof Primer, X-4767 Zinc Dust Primer, and the Rust-Resistor Series. Phos-Pro is a pretreatment designed only for initial rust conversion and metal protection. The metal should be re-coated before new surface rust has a chance to take hold again.

Intended Use: Cleans, etches and stops rust on steel surfaces.

SURFACE PREPARATION: Phos-Pro is a metal prep and surface conditioner. All loose paint, rust and dirt should be removed prior to use for best results.

APPLICATION: Apply liberally to the surface by means of a garden type sprayer, brush or rag. Surface must be thoroughly wetted out. Some surfaces, especially extremely oxidized surfaces should be coated a second time. The second coat may be applied within a few minutes of the first. When it is not desired to wait overnight for the Phos-Pro to dry, it may be rinsed with alcohol within one hour of application. Cleaning and etching of corroded galvanized steel may require two coats for adequate etching. Zinc Dust Primer should then be applied to the surface to replace the zinc which has worn away and been removed by the cleaning process.

THINNING: Do not thin.

CLEAN-UP: Tools and equipment should be thoroughly cleaned with a water rinse followed up by an alcohol rinse to prevent damage by acid etching.
